2025 Hungarian Grand Prix Qualifying Review

For one final time before the Summer Break, Qualifying took place around the tricky Hungaroring, a circuit that is notoriously difficult to overtake around!

Q1

In Qualifying 1, Yuki Tsunoda, Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon, Nico Hulkenberg, and Alex Albon were the five slowest drivers! Yuki Tsunoda was honestly very unlucky to be knocked out in Q1 given he was only a tenth and a bit behind his Red Bull teammate, whilst Pierre Gasly will be disappointed with his performance! Esteban Ocon said he couldn’t get much more out of his Haas, but P18 isn’t the greatest result whilst both Nico Hulkenberg and Alex Albon had shockers to qualify 19th and 20th respectively! Oscar Piastri topped Q1 from McLaren, but it was Fernando Alonso who ended up second for Aston Martin!

Q2

In Qualifying 2, Oliver Bearman, Lewis Hamilton, Carlos Sainz, Franco Colapinto, and Andrea Kimi Antonelli all failed to make it into the Top 10 shootout! Oliver Bearman will be gutted to have missed out on Q3 by just a few hundredths of a second, whilst Lewis Hamilton looked dejected following another tricky Qualifying session. Carlos Sainz could only manage 13th for Williams, ahead of Franco Colapinto who did a decent job to be the lead Alpine! Andrea Kimi Antonelli ended up slowest in Q3 after having his final lap time deleted. Nothing is going right for him! It was a McLaren 1-2 in Q2, with Lando Norris just ahead of Piastri!

Q3

In Qualifying 3, a 1:15.372 was enough for Charles Leclerc to take an insane Pole Position! This literally came out of nowhere, like seriously out of nowhere, but this is exactly what makes this sport so magical sometimes! McLaren will be perplexed as to how they let a clear 1-2 slide, with Oscar Piastri just ahead of Championship Rival Lando Norris, whilst George Russell did superbly well to end up just half a tenth off Pole! Aston Martin had an amazing day, with Fernando Alonso just 17 thousandths of a second faster than Lance Stroll, but I do wonder if they would’ve been hoping for more! Gabriel Bortoleto was another star of Qualifying to end up 7th, ahead of Max Verstappen (who’s had little pace all weekend long), and it’s an all-Racing Bulls 5th-Row, with Liam Lawson heading Isack Hadjar (I don’t think Hadjar’s going to be too happy after this session)!
