Norris Holds Off Piastri to Win in Hungary

After a terrible start, the decision to go for a 1-stop was enough for Lando Norris to hold off Oscar Piastri to take a crucial victory in yet another McLaren 1-2! George Russell rounded out the Podium after a terrific drive for Mercedes!

The Biggest Talking Points

Charles Leclerc got off the line well to keep the lead into Turn 1, but the same couldn’t be said for Lando Norris as his cautiousness resulted in him losing places to both George Russell and Fernando Alonso! Lando was able to quickly pass Fernando a few laps later, though, and Alonso created a bit of a train which included Max Verstappen making multiple overtakes into the chicane! Out front, Charles was continuing to extend his lead out front as Oscar opted for the undercut, a move that didn’t work out! Certain drivers opted for a 1-stop, others opted for a 2, and that resulted in things becoming very close between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, with Hamilton being pushed off at Turn 4!

Out front, Lando Norris opted for a 1-stop strategy, resulting in him jumping ahead of both Charles Leclerc and Oscar Piastri, but Charles’ chances of a Race Win came to an end as his pace massively dropped off due to an issue, ultimately being overtaken by George Russell for the final step on the Podium! Speaking of that battle, Leclerc was far too over the limit here, I feel his pain totally, but he was still too much! Anyway, Max Verstappen was completely stuck behind Liam Lawson by this point, he couldn’t make any further progress whilst Aston Martin were having a terrific day in 5th and 7th! Back at the front, Piastri had closed the gap to Norris to under a second, but with the difficult challenge of actually making an overtake, Oscar just couldn’t quite get through as Lando did enough to go into the Summer Break just 9 points behind!

The Standout Drives in the Race

I’ve given out four 10’s for the 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix and the first one is obviously for Lando Norris! Lando did very well today, he got given the better strategy after having a difficult start to the Race, but he still didn’t make a mistake, and he deserves a lot of praise for that! The second driver I’ve given out maximum points to is George Russell, and I think that’s fair because what else could he do? The two McLarens are miles clear of the rest, so for George to secure a Podium is all he could do! The third driver I’ve given a Perfect 10 to is Fernando Alonso, and wow, P5 for Aston Martin, fantastic work! And the final driver I’ve given a 10 to is Gabriel Bortoleto! Gabby did exceptionally well today to secure a career-best P6, and he is starting to make his mark as a standout Rookie! Oscar Piastri also deserves a mention because his pace was really strong, Charles Leclerc was very unlucky as he drove brilliantly for the large majority of the Grand Prix, and shoutout to both Lance Stroll and Liam Lawson for scoring great points!

Drivers Who Had a Shocker

I’ve given out one 1 for today’s Race, and that is unfortunately for Yuki Tsunoda! I’ve honestly had enough of talking about the second Red Bull seat, Yuki is not a bad driver, but fighting the two Alpines for last is unacceptable, it’s horrendous! Speaking of Alpine, they were so slow today, Pierre got a 10-second time penalty for a collision with Carlos Sainz, and Lewis Hamilton also had a difficult day as he couldn’t even make it back into the points in 12th!
