We’ve managed to survive the off-season, and as other series come to an end, Season 12 of ABB FIA Formula E is just about to start! This year marks the final season of the Gen3 Era, with the cars radically changing for Season 13, so I’m sure that FE is going to go out with a bang! As always with these previews, we will go through all 10 teams (reduced from last year’s 11 with the departure of McLaren), 20 drivers, and a record-breaking calendar! So, let’s get into it!

The Teams and Drivers:
Andretti Formula E

We start with one of the most iconic names in motorsport history, Andretti! Andretti Formula E have appeared in every season of Formula E, and during that time, they’ve achieved 11 Wins, 14 Pole Positions, and 39 Podiums! In terms of their best Championship finish, that came in Season 9 (2023) when they finished third in the same season that Jake Dennis delivered them their one and only World Championship!
When it comes to their drivers, Andretti have once again retained the services of Jake Dennis, whilst Felipe Drugovich is set to compete in his first full single-seater season since 2022! Jake Dennis enters 2026 after a winless 2025, although he still massively outperformed his teammate to end up 7th! Jake is set to enter his 6th season in Formula E, and during that time, Dennis has achieved 6 Victories, 23 Podiums, and 1 World Championship (2023).
As for his teammate, Felipe Drugovich is finally back racing “full-time”! Felipe is a former MRF Challenge Formula 2000 (2017/18), Euroformula Open (2018), and FIA Formula 2 (2022) Champion, and he’s spent the past few years as a test/reserve driver for Aston Martin’s Formula 1 Team! Drugovich also isn’t exactly a stranger to Formula E, having topped both Rookie Test sessions in 2023, whilst he also scored points on his debut weekend for Mahindra in Berlin earlier this year!
Overall, Andretti Formula E have struggled in recent seasons, finishing just 7th in the Teams’ Championship last year! However, Andretti easily have one of the best driver lineups on the entire grid, and if they can deliver a strong car for both Jake Dennis and Felipe Drugovich, well the potential is limitless!

Citroen Racing

Maserati MSG Racing is no more, as Citroen have swooped in to make their return to top-level motorsport for the first time since 2019! The Citroen Racing team has been in Formula E since the beginning (having previously appeared as both Venturi and Maserati), and during that time, they’ve achieved 11 Wins, 5 Pole Positions, and 29 Podiums! In terms of their best Championship finish, that came in Season 8 (2022) when they finished as Runners-Up in the Teams’ Championship!
When it comes to their drivers, Citroen aren’t pulling any punches with a star-studded duo of Nick Cassidy and former 2-time Formula E Champion, Jean-Eric Vergne! After a pretty horrendous start to 2025, the final six Races of Season 11 proved to be almost perfect for Nick Cassidy, with the Kiwi winning 4 Races on his way to finishing second in the Drivers’ Championship! Nick is about to enter his 6th season in Formula E, and during that time, Cassidy has achieved 11 Wins and 25 Podiums!
As for his teammate, Jean-Eric Vergne is ready for a new challenge after 9 years with the DS team! Jean had another consistently solid year to finish 6th in Season 11, but he again went without reaching the top step of the Podium! Vergne is an absolute veteran in Formula E, having driven in all previous 11 seasons of the series, and during that time, JEV has 11 Wins and 38 Podiums to his name, whilst also being the sport’s only double Champion!
Overall, the team known as Maserati MSG Racing were pretty poor last year, but there’s a breath of fresh air around Citroen Racing this year, from the new name and look all the way to the super strong and aggressive driver lineup! Whilst it might take a little bit of time to get to where they want to go, Citroen are clearly aiming for the top!

Cupra Kiro

It’s another year where I’m talking about this team with a different name (at least at the start of the season), but it does look like Cupra Kiro could be sticking around for a nice amount of time! Cupra Kiro have been racing in Formula E since the series began (under various names including NIO333 and ERT), and during that time, they’ve achieved 3 Wins, 3 Pole Positions, and 8 Podiums! In terms of their best Championship finish, that came when they finished 4th all the way back in Season 1 (when they were known as China Racing)!
When it comes to their drivers, Dan Ticktum is sticking around for another season whilst young Spanish driver Pepe Marti is set to make his Formula E World Championship debut! Dan Ticktum easily had his best season in Formula E to date last year, finishing 11th in the Championship with a famous win in Jakarta to his name! Dan has been in Formula E for 4 seasons now, and during that time, Ticktum has achieved 1 Win, 1 Pole Position, and 2 Podiums (all in Season 11)!
As for his teammate, Pepe Marti is raring to go in a top single-seater Championship! Pepe has previously finished third in Spanish F4 (2021) and second in Formula Regional Asia (2022), and he’s achieved 7 wins over the course of his time in both FIA Formula 3 and FIA Formula 2! As of right now, Marti is currently 6th in Formula 2 (even though he won’t take any further part in the series)!
Overall, there were positives to take from Cupra Kiro’s 2025 Season, but it’s also worth remembering that they still only finished 10th in the Standings, so there’s still a long way for them to go before they can be seen as anything other than “underdogs”!

DS Penske

It’s a new era for DS Penske, but will it be enough to finally take them to the top?! The DS Penske team have competed in every season of Formula E (under multiple different names), and during that time, they’ve achieved 5 Wins, 9 Pole Positions, and 21 Podiums! In terms of their best Championship finish, that came in Season 1 when they finished second in the Teams’ Championship (as Dragon Racing)!
When it comes to their drivers, Maximilian Gunther is hoping to build from his first season with the team whilst Taylor Barnard comes over after a superb Rookie Season with McLaren! Max Gunther struggled in comparison to his teammate last year, but despite that, Max still managed to achieve 2 Wins from Pole Position (something his teammate never came close to doing)! Gunther is about to enter his 8th season in Formula E, and during that time, he’s achieved 12 Podiums, with 7 of them being Race Victories!
As for his teammate, Taylor Barnard arrives with a whole lot of expectation following a special Rookie Season! Taylor did brilliantly for NEOM McLaren last year, finishing 4th in the Championship with 5 Podiums to his name! Barnard also achieved 2 Pole Positions in 2025, and whilst he’s still yet to win in Formula E, the young Brit will expect that to change come the end of Season 12!
Overall, DS Penske were a midfield team last year, and losing the uber-consistent Jean-Eric Vergne is a loss for them that they will struggle to fill! However, their driver lineup is still very strong, and if Maximilian Gunther can sustain a better level of strong consistency alongside a rapid Taylor Barnard, this could be their best year in the series to date!

Envision Racing

Envision Racing are trying to prove the myth that green cars can actually be fast! The Envision team have competed in every season of Formula E (even though they originally started as Virgin Racing), and during that time, they’ve achieved 17 Wins, 15 Pole Positions, and 56 Podiums! In terms of their best Championship finish, that came in 2023 when they were crowned as Champions of Season 9!
When it comes to their drivers, Sebastien Buemi returns for his 4th season with the team whilst Joel Eriksson is ready for his first full season in Formula E! Sebastien Buemi proved to easily be Envision Racing’s best driver last year, achieving 3 Podiums including a special win in Monaco! Seb Buemi has competed in every season of Formula E, and during that time, he’s achieved 14 Wins, 35 Podiums, and 16 Pole Positions, and Buemi also became Champion all the way back in Season 2 (2016)!
As for his teammate, Joel Eriksson enters Formula E full-time after years of being on the sidelines! Joel is a former runner-up in the ADAC Formula 4 (2015) and FIA Formula 3 European (2017) Championships, and he’s also a former winner of the Masters of Formula 3 event in Zandvoort! An advantage that Eriksson has is he’s very used to driving Formula E machinery, having served as a Reserve Driver at Jaguar TCS Racing for the past few years, whilst the Swedish driver has also driven in 10 Races for Dragon and Envision, respectively!
Overall, Envision Racing haven’t exactly turned any heads in terms of excitement when it comes to their driver lineup, but what Envision needs is stability and consistency, something they’ve completely lacked since their Championship-winning season!

Jaguar TCS Racing

After only holding onto the crown for a year, Jaguar TCS Racing already have their sights set on recapturing Championship glory! Jaguar have competed in Formula E since Season 3, and during that time, they’ve achieved 22 Wins, 13 Pole Positions, and 53 Podiums! In terms of their best Championship finish, that came in 2024 when they crowned Teams’ Champions of Season 10!
When it comes to their drivers, Mitch Evans is ready for his 10th year with the team whilst former Champion Antonio Felix da Costa arrives in place of Nick Cassidy! Mitch Evans suffered his worst year in Formula E since his debut season earlier this year, but despite that, he still managed 2 wins and 2 Pole Positions (with a resurgence in the final two rounds)! Mitch is set to enter his 10th season in Formula E soon, and during those first 9 years, Evans has achieved 13 Wins and 33 Podiums!
As for his teammate, Antonio Felix da Costa is hoping that a move to Jaguar will finally put him back in Championship contention! Antonio was pretty solid last year to finish 5th in the standings, but despite that placing, he wasn’t able to take a victory as he ran secondary to his teammate! Da Costa has driven in Formula E since the inaugural season, and during that time, he’s achieved 12 Wins and 27 Podiums, whilst he also became Champion back in 2020 (Season 6)!
Overall, whilst most of 2025 was a mess, Jaguar TCS Racing managed to win each of the last 4 Races of Season 11 (5 in 6) to climb all the way up to second in the Teams’ Championship, and if they can start the season as well as they ended it, well Championship glory come be coming home to Jaguar, with the only question being “Evans or da Costa”!

Lola Yamaha ABT

After being easily the worst team in the series last season, Lola Yamaha ABT are hoping for a better second season under their “new name”! ABT have competed in every season of Formula E minus Season 8 (7 years with Audi, 2 with Cupra), and during that time, they’ve achieved 14 Wins, 6 Pole Positions, and 48 Podiums! In terms of their best Championship finish, that came in Season 4 when Audi won the Teams’ Championship, whilst Lucas di Grassi was also crowned Drivers’ Champion of Season 3 (2017)!
When it comes to their drivers, Lola have retained the services of Lucas di Grassi and Zane Maloney for the second-straight season! Lucas di Grassi managed to score all 32 of Lola Yamaha’s points last season, with the highlight being an amazing P2 finish in Miami! Lucas is another Formula E original, having competed since the beginning, and during that time, he’s achieved 13 Wins, 41 Podiums, and of course, a Championship Title back in 2017!
As for is teammate, Zane Maloney is hoping that his second season in the series goes an awful lot better than his first! Zane finished bottom of the Season 11 standings, being the only driver in the entire field not to score a single point, and that means that Maloney is still looking for his inaugural points in the sport! Surely the “Boy from Barbados” will get them this year (and hopefully for his sake, a lot more)!
Overall, there’s very little expectation surrounding Lola Yamaha ABT given how the last few years have gone for them, but Lucas di Grassi will want to end the Gen3 Era on a high whilst Zane Maloney needs a strong year in order to maintain his place in the sport!

Mahindra Racing

Mahindra Racing enter Season 12 feeling better than they have in sometime after a resurgence during 2025! Mahindra have competed in every season of Formula E, and during that time, they’ve achieved 5 Wins, 11 Pole Positions, and 29 Podiums! In terms of their best Championship finish, that came all the way back in Season 3 when they ended up third!
When it comes to their drivers, Nyck de Vries and Edoardo Mortara once again join forces for another season with the Indian team! Nyck de Vries had his best season in racing for years last time out in Season 11, scoring 3 second-place finishes on his way to 8th in the Championship (whilst also missing the Berlin double header)! Nyck is set to enter his 6th year in Formula E, and during his first 5 years, de Vries has won 4 Races, appeared on the Podium 11 times, and he was also the sports’ inaugural World Champion back in 2021!
As for his teammate, Edoardo Mortara is also feeling good after a positive Season 11! Edo achieved seven Top 6 finishes on his way to 9th in the Championship earlier this year, with back-to-back Podiums in Jakarta and Berlin! In the 111 Races that Edo Mortara has competed in in his Formula E career, Mortara has achieved 6 Wins and 15 Podiums so far!
Overall, Mahindra Racing massively overperformed last year, but it actually shouldn’t be that much of a surprise given how strong their driver lineup can be when they’re firing well! So, if Nyck de Vries and Edoardo Mortara can perform highly again in 2026, expect another strong year for Mahindra!

Nissan Formula E Team

Nissan Formula E Team know that whilst winning the Drivers’ Championship was an incredible achievement, finishing only third in the Teams’ Standings has left them still wanting more! The Nissan team have competed in every season of Formula E (originally known as Renault e.dams), and during that time, they’ve achieved 23 Wins, 27 Pole Positions, and 54 Podiums! In terms of their best Championship finish as Renault, that came when they won the Teams’ Championship in Season 1, 2, and 3 (Sebastien Buemi also won the Drivers' Title in Season 2), whilst Oliver Rowland gave Nissan their first Title (with the name) earlier this year!
When it comes to their drivers, Oliver Rowland is looking to lead the charge again, whilst, rather surprisingly, Norman Nato remains as his teammate! Oliver Rowland had a masterful Season 11, scoring 7 Podium finishes in the first 9 Races as he ran away with things to become a World Champion! Ollie Rowland has driven 94 Races in his Formula E career, winning 7 times and picking up 20 Podiums (and of course a World Title)!
As for his teammate, despite a pretty woeful 2025, Norman Nato is being given another chance at Nissan! Norman was pretty awful last year, finishing only 20th in the Championship (whilst his teammate won it), firmly costing Nissan the chance to become double Champs! In his 63 Formula E drives, Nato has only won once (Berlin 2021), and he achieved his maiden Pole Position in the sport earlier this year in Miami!
Overall, Oliver Rowland’s form at the start of last season was pretty untouchable, but his struggles later in the year could be of concern given the usual “Formula E Champions curse”! Nissan will be hoping for their sake that Rowland does perform, and they very much need Norman Nato to perform, given the risk they’ve taken keeping him to begin with!

Porsche Formula E Team

And last, but certainly not least, we end with the reigning Teams’ Champions, Porsche Formula E Team! Porsche Formula E Team have been in Formula E for 6 seasons now, and during that time, they’ve achieved 13 Wins, 9 Pole Positions, and 32 Podiums! In terms of their best Championship finish, that came earlier this year when Porsche were crowned as Teams’ Champions, whilst Pascal Wehrlein became World Champion back in Season 10!
When it comes to their drivers, Pascal Wehrlein is looking to recapture his crown whilst Porsche have taken a bit of a risk by bringing in Nico Muller to replace Antonio Felix da Costa! Whilst he couldn’t go back-to-back, Pascal Wehrlein handled the Champions curse much better than most, finishing third in the Championship with 6 Podium finishes across the year! Pascal has driven in Formula E for 7 seasons now, and during that time, Wehrlein has achieved 8 Wins, 9 Pole Positions, and 1 World Championship!
As for his teammate, Nico Muller arrives after a difficult year at Andretti! Nico was well off his teammate in terms of performance last year, finishing just 15th in the Standings, but it’s not like it’s too much of a surprise given the records of previous Jake Dennis teammates! Muller has competed in 62 E-Prix Weekends, with his one and only Podium finish coming all the way back in 2021 (P2 in Valencia)!
Overall, Porsche Formula E Team have gone from having arguably the best teammate pairing on the grid to a lineup with questions surrounding it! However, the only question surrounding Pascal Wehrlein is whether he can become a 2-time Formula E World Champion or not, whilst Nico Muller is in a must-perform year!

Formula E has raced in Miami twice in the past, at two different circuits, and they will make it three from three this year! Just like in Mexico City, FE will run a different layout at the Miami International Autodrome than what Formula 1 uses, with them using the 2.816km (1.750 miles), 14-corner Extended MIA Loop version! Nico Prost won the inaugural Miami E-Prix in 2015, whilst Pascal Wehrlein won last year’s event!
Round 4 and 5: Jeddah (February 13th/14th)
After a successful first visit, Jeddah remains the home of Formula E racing in Saudi Arabia! Formula E has run here in the past for Pre-Season Testing for Season 11, but this marks the first time that Spain has a spot on the officially planned Formula E Calendar, having previously only run Races in Valencia due to other events being cancelled (for Covid-19)!
Round 7 and 8: Berlin (May 2nd/3rd)
In a much earlier calendar slot than usual, Berlin hosts Formula E for the 12th successive season! The Tempelhof Airport Street Circuit is 2.343km (1.460 miles) long, and it features 15 corners! In total, there have been 22 Berlin E-Prix’s, with Jerome d’Ambrosio winning the inaugural Race in 2015, whilst Nick Cassidy won last season’s event! In terms of repeat winners, Sebastien Buemi, Lucas di Grassi, and Mitch Evans have each won around here twice, but the two most successful drivers around the Tempelhof Airport are Nick Cassidy and Antonio Felix da Costa (both 3-time winners)!
Round 9 and 10: Monaco (May 16th/17th)
Three weeks before Formula 1 comes to town, Formula E gets to show what racing really can be like around the streets of Monte Carlo! Formula E uses the traditional 3.337km (2.047 miles) long circuit, which features a total of 19 corners! In total, there have been 9 Monaco E-Prix’s, with Sebastien Buemi winning both the inaugural and most recent Race! Speaking of, Buemi is the only repeat winner of the Monaco E-Prix, having won 3 times in the Principality!
Round 11: Sanya (June 20th)
After 7 years away, Formula E returns to Sanya for the first of 3 Races in China! The Haitang Bay Circuit is 2.236km (1.389 miles) long and it features a total of 11 corners! The one and only Sanya E-Prix, held in 2019, was won by Jean-Eric Vergne!
Round 12 and 13: Shanghai (July 4th/5th)
The first of three double-headers to end the season takes place in Shanghai for more Chinese action! Formula E runs around the Shanghai International Circuit, but with a shorter 3.051km (1.896 miles) long layout (with 12 corners) than what Formula 1 uses! In total, there have been 4 Shanghai E-Prix’s, with Mitch Evans winning the inaugural Race in 2024, whilst Nick Cassidy won the second Race of last season’s event! So far, there are no repeat winners in terms of drivers, but Jaguar TCS Racing have won in Shanghai twice!
Round 14 and 15: Tokyo (July 25th/26th)
Formula E remains in Asia for another weekend, but this time they head to Japan for the Tokyo E-Prix! The Tokyo Street Circuit is 2.585km (1.606 miles) long, and it features a total of 20 corners! In total, there have been three Tokyo E-Prix’s, with Maximilian Gunther winning the inaugural Race in 2024, whilst Oliver Rowland won the second Race of last season’s event! Whilst there haven’t been any repeat winners in Tokyo, Oliver Rowland has appeared on the Podium in all 3 Races in Japan’s capital!
Round 16 and 17: London (August 15th/16th)
For the 4th-straight year, the ExCeL Centre plays host to the Season Finale of Season 12 as someone will leave London as the ABB FIA Formula E World Champion! The ExCeL London Circuit is 2.09km (1.30 miles) long and it features a total of 20 corners! In total, there have been 14 London E-Prix’s, with Sebastien Buemi winning the inaugural Race in 2015, whilst Nick Cassidy won both Races in Season 11! In terms of repeat winners, Nico Prost and Jake Dennis have both won twice, whilst Nick Cassidy is a 3-time London E-Prix Winner!

excellent article, good looking cars!
