Reacting to My ABB FIA Formula E Season 12 Predictions
Remember that chaotic Gen3 Era-ending weekend in London last month? Well, it’s been a busy period since, but it’s finally time for me to react to my Season 12 Predictions that I made all the way back in December last year! I didn’t get a single prediction correct in Season 11, so let’s hope for better this time around!
P20: Pepe Marti
In fairness to Pepe Marti, he did pretty well this season, finishing 13th in his Rookie Formula E Season! Not only did Pepe achieve 2 Podium finishes this season, but he beat his teammate in the standings; something I very much didn’t see coming!
P19: Zane Maloney
I didn’t expect much from Zane Maloney in 2026, and he actually managed to do even worse, finishing last in the standings with just 3 points to his name! It’s been a difficult period for Zane in Formula E, but at least he scored a point this season!
P18: Joel Eriksson
Whilst I was only 2 places off with my P18 prediction for Joel Eriksson, I have to hold my hands up and say that he performed a lot better than I expected! Joel scored 55 points across his “Rookie” campaign, which included a wonderful Podium with a P3 in Shanghai! It’s honestly a shame that Eriksson doesn’t have a drive for next season, as I think he’s done well enough to deserve one!
P17: Lucas di Grassi
I actually got one right! Whilst the large majority of Lucas di Grassi’s final year in Formula E was difficult, no one can take away his iconic victory in Shanghai! Now that is something I definitely didn’t see coming! Whatever happens in the rest of this article, I've already done better than last year!
P16: Norman Nato
After a poor Season 11, I expected Norman Nato to comfortably be second best in the Nissan head-to-head, but I was wrong with my prediction of Norman finishing P16! Instead, Nato finished 19th in the Championship, scoring 117 points less than his teammate! Awful!
P15: Nico Muller
I was wrong about Nico Muller, as the Swiss driver ended up finishing 9th overall! Nico managed to score 102 points altogether, including a strong victory in Berlin! However, Muller’s performances still weren’t good enough in terms of helping Porsche to win the Teams’ Championship (despite the fact that his teammate won the Drivers’ Title)!
P14: Dan Ticktum
According to me, Dan Ticktum was going to “easily outshine” his rookie teammate in Season 12, so that aged terribly given the fact that Dan finished behind his Cupra Kiro teammate in the standings! Now, Ticktum’s highs were higher: 2 Pole Positions and a win in Tokyo, but finishing 15th in the standings was a disappointment! Which, honestly, is kind of ironic given that I only predicted him to finish one place higher!
P13: Sebastien Buemi
In his final season in ABB FIA Formula E, Sebastien Buemi performed better than I predicted, finishing 10th in the Championship in a year that included six Top 5 finishes! Buemi’s best result was a P2 in Jeddah, so at least he managed to get one more Podium!
P12: Felipe Drugovich
I put Felipe Drugovich down in P12 because of the “now-famous” Andretti second seat curse, and it very much struck again with the Brazilian ending up 14th overall! Felipe had a brilliant run between Monaco and Shanghai, scoring 63 points, which included a P2 (in Monaco) and a Pole Position (in Shanghai)! However, the rest of the season didn’t go to plan at all, so Drugovich needs to do more in Gen4!
P11: Maximilian Gunther
Season 12 didn’t go to plan whatsoever as far as Maximilian Gunther was concerned, as the DS Penske driver finished all the way down in P18! Gunther also failed to appear on the Podium all season long, so no wonder he’s left Penske moving forward! Terrible prediction!
P10: Edoardo Mortara
Mahindra Racing were one of the biggest success stories of Formula E Season 12, with Edoardo Mortara finishing 5th in the Drivers’ Championship! Edo Mortara achieved 3 Podiums as well as 4 Pole Positions in 2026, with the only thing missing for Mortara being his first E-Prix victory in Gen3! A very strong season from Edo, but a perfect one may just have landed him the World Championship (which is kind of insane)!
P9: Nyck de Vries
Nyck de Vries did both better and worse than I predicted; finishing 7th overall but playing second best to his teammate! However, Nyck did achieve the goal of taking Mahindra back to winning ways, taking victories in Monaco and Tokyo! Add that to Podiums in Sanya and London (where he took Pole Position), and it was a pretty positive year for the inaugural Formula E World Champion!
P8: Nick Cassidy
Out of all of my correct predictions over the years, correctly putting Nick Cassidy P8 has to be one of my better ones! Nick Cassidy has been one of the best drivers in Formula E across the Gen3 Era, but moving to a brand-new team was always going to cause questions, as we simply didn’t know how good Citroen Racing were going to be! Ultimately, Cassidy appeared on the Podium 5 times across Season 12, including a historic victory in Mexico City! Nick also beat his teammate, so well done for that too!
P7: Jean-Eric Vergne
Unfortunately for Jean-Eric Vergne, Season 12 was the hardest of his entire Formula E Career, finishing all the way down in P12 in the Drivers’ Standings! Vergne was able to achieve a shock Podium in Shanghai, but personally, I expected more from JEV!
P6: Jake Dennis
In my opinion, Jake Dennis is one of the two best drivers in the Formula E Paddock, but it’s hard to predict him as a Championship contender due to Andretti’s uncompetitiveness (when it comes to fighting for wins) in recent seasons! However, a burst of performance in the second half of the season allowed Dennis back into the Championship, only to lose out in controversial fashion in London! Still, 2 wins and a 2nd-place finish in the Championship is very good going from the Season 9 World Champion!
P5: Taylor Barnard
Well, this aged terribly! After a brilliant Rookie Season, a first year in black and gold proved difficult for Taylor Barnard, as he finished only 11th overall! In fact, if it wasn’t for his win in the final Race of the season in London, Taylor would’ve finished an awful lot lower! On a positive note, I did say that Barnard would achieve his first Formula E victory in 2026, which he did (breaking the record for the youngest E-Prix winner ever)!
P4: Oliver Rowland
I actually managed to get another one right, with Oliver Rowland indeed coming home to finish P4! It’s almost impossible to win back-to-back Formula E Titles, and it’s potentially even harder to predict where the reigning Champ is going to finish a year later! So, I’m pretty happy with this, as Ollie Rowland achieved 6 Podiums across Season 12, including a win around the streets of Monte Carlo!
P3: Antonio Felix da Costa
I believed that a move from Porsche to Jaguar TCS Racing could allow Antonio Felix da Costa to get right in the Championship fight, and whilst he was close at certain points of the season, da Costa could only manage 6th in the end! Antonio still had some high moments, particularly when he won back-to-back Races across Jeddah and Madrid, but he ultimately struggled for top-level consistency in comparison to his teammate!
P2: Mitch Evans
Despite a pretty disappointing 2025, I firmly expected Mitch Evans to get himself right back into Championship contention, and that very much did happen! 2 Wins and multiple Podiums meant Mitch finished just 9 points off the Championship lead, although sadly for me, Evans finished third overall! As brilliant as Mitch Evans was during his time at Jaguar, the fact that he never became World Champion will sting massively!
P1: Pascal Wehrlein
Rather unbelievably, I successfully predicted that Pascal Wehrlein would become the 2026 ABB FIA Formula E World Champion! My reasoning for going with Pascal was that he’s the best driver in the series, and he doesn’t have to deal with the “Champion's curse” that he had to “manage” in Season 11! All of this proved to be accurate, with 3 wins (including a crucial one in London) being enough for Wehrlein to snatch his second World Championship on the final weekend of the season! I’ve never predicted the correct Formula E Champion in these articles, so I’m pretty pleased with this! Also, 20% correct is quite good for me!
