A double header in Berlin leaves me with a lot to talk about in our latest ABB FIA Formula E weekend recap!

Porsche’s Mixed Home Race Weekend

The fans were packed in the grandstands at Tempelhof Airport this weekend, meaning the support couldn’t be any higher for Porsche Formula E Team ahead of their Home Race Weekend! On Saturday, Championship leader Pascal Wehrlein suffered a frustrating puncture, resulting in a rare point-less Race, whilst Nico Muller seized the moment to take his first-ever Formula E victory! To win at your teams’ Home Race is pretty special! However, on Sunday, the positivity was reversed, with Muller getting into a tangle with Antonio Felix da Costa, meaning he could only finish P13, whilst Wehrlein returned to the Podium (whilst also gaining another 3 points for taking Pole Position)! It means that despite Saturday’s issues, Pascal Wehrlein does still lead the Formula E World Championship, but there’s obviously still a long way to go!

Oliver Rowland’s Controversial Overtake

Oliver Rowland has had a pretty great weekend, appearing on the Podium twice, and scoring a total of 34 points! That’s exactly what Ollie needed, as he now finds himself 4th in the Drivers’ Standings as he looks to break the Reigning FE Champion curse! However, we need to talk about his overtake on Pascal Wehrlein in Round 8, as he clearly overtook Wehrlein under a yellow flag! Amazingly, I’ve waited a day, and Rowland still hasn’t been given a penalty for this overtake! Honestly, the FIA never fails to amaze me!

Leading the World Championship… For a Day

We’ve already spoken this season about Edoardo Mortara’s incredible consistency, which includes his lack of being able to stand on the top step of the Podium! Yesterday, Edo once again took Pole Position, only to finish off the Podium in P4! However, there was still a small reason to celebrate as Mortara found himself ending the day as the new Championship leader! However, it didn’t last for too long, as a “disappointing” 7th-placed finish means Edo Mortara leaves Berlin third in the standings, behind both Pascal Wehrlein and Mitch Evans! It’s crazy that besides Round 1, P7 is Edoardo Mortara’s worst result of the season, and although that does highlight his high level of consistency, Edo is going to need to start winning if he wants to end the season as Formula E’s newest World Champion!

A Better Weekend for Andretti

Season 12 of ABB FIA Formula E certainly hasn’t been the easiest for Andretti Formula E, with their only highlight coming last December when Jake Dennis took victory! However, Berlin proved to be a far better circuit for the American team, with Dennis earning two Top 6 finishes to gain a total of 19 points across Round 7 and 8! However, perhaps the bigger result came for Felipe Drugovich, as finally, for the first time in Andretti colours, Felipe scored points! Yes, it was only P9, but to say that the Brazilian needed that would be an understatement! The big question now is whether or not Drugovich can build on this, whilst Jake Dennis will look to climb higher than 7th in the Championship!

Mitch Evans Wins Again

If in doubt, predict Mitch Evans to win a Formula E Race! It’s safe to say, though, that Mitch doesn’t exactly like to do it easily, as he started today’s Race from Row 9 after deciding to save his fresh tyres for the Race, rather than using them in Qualifying! This proved to be a brilliant strategy, as Mitch came through the field quickly, whilst also managing to retain a strong amount of energy! Evans wouldn’t have it all his own way, though, as both Oliver Rowland and Pascal Wehrlein chased him down right until the end! After 8 rounds, Mitch Evans is second in the Drivers’ Championship, just 3 points behind the leader Wehrlein!
