John Cena Starts the Show, AJ Styles VS Chad Gable

This week’s edition of Monday Night Raw started with John Cena as the history-making, record-breaking, 17-time World Champion graced Pheonix with his presence for one final time! John went straight in on the crowd for bringing back R-Truth, pointing out that they won’t even care about him in a year’s time (which is probably true) and that it’s his retirement tour! Cena also said that we’re halfway through his dates before CM Punk arrived to make things clear, he wants to take the Undisputed WWE Championship so Cena can spend the rest of his final year apologising to all the fans for how terribly he’s been acting! In fact, Punk wanted the match tonight, but Cena said no, saying the match would take place at Night of Champions instead! This was a good start to the show, both men delivered their lines well, and it ended with Seth “Freakin” Rollins coming out onto the stage!

We then went straight into the opening match of the night as AJ Styles clashed with Chad Gable! Chad Gable was bandaged up heavily after his great clash with El Hijo del Vikingo at Worlds Collide, but he actually put in a heck of a shift to pull out an entertaining match! Both AJ and Chad are so good at what they do, they’re always fun to watch, and this was no exception! Despite coming close on a couple of occasions, it was AJ Styles who was able to pick up the win with a pretty devastating Styles Clash! The fact that neither of these two are in the King of the Ring Tournament is a little odd!

Queen of the Ring Tournament (Round 1): Liv Morgan VS Rhea Ripley VS Roxanne Perez VS Kairi Sane, Becky Lynch Promo, R-Truth Appears

Liv Morgan didn’t seem interested in Roxanne Perez’s offer to work together in their First Round match of the Queen of the Ring Tournament, but when it came to the match itself, Liv and Roxanne ended up working really well together, completely dealing with the threat of Rhea Ripley whilst also taking advantage of Kairi Sane! I actually see this going quite far because Morgan and Perez’s chemistry was strong, but it still wasn’t fully enough to fight off Rhea as The Eradicator thought back! However, after Ripley delivered Riptide to Morgan, Raquel Rodriguez pulled her out of the ring to cost Rhea the match, opening the door for Kairi Sane to take both women out before Kairi delivered a terrific Insane Elbow to Liv! However, that still wasn’t enough for Sane as Perez took advantage and rolled up Kairi to sneak away with a victory! It’s nice to see Roxanne Perez winning matches again, and this was all well done!

Nikki Bella met Maxxine Dupri and Iyo Sky for the first time backstage before Becky Lynch came out to cut a promo on her victory at Money in the Bank! Becky said that she couldn’t celebrate winning the Women’s Intercontinental Championship because of how crazy and disrespectful Lyra Valkyria acted! Becky then demanded that Lyra makes her way down to the ring to show her the proper respect this time, but this just opened the door for a returning Bayley to attack Lynch from behind, resulting in The Man scampering away! It’s cool to see Bayley, but otherwise, this segment did nothing!

R-Truth then appeared out of nowhere on the commentary desk to thank the fans for bringing him back, for making enough noise that the company knew they needed him! Truth said he loves the character R-Truth, but he can sometimes be too funny, too nice, too easy to push around, and whilst Truth is back, so is he! In a shocking turn of events, R-Truth then cut off his hair, revealing that he will now be known as “Ron Killings”, and having a serious version of Truth should be a lot better!

King of the Ring Tournament (Round 1): Dominik Mysterio VS Bron Breakker VS Penta VS Sami Zayn, Nikki Bella Returns to Raw

After Seth “Freakin” Rollins told his crew that their takeover of WWE is only just beginning, Bron Breakker headed down to the ring for the first match of the King of the Ring Tournament as Breakker, Dominik Mysterio, Penta, and Sami Zayn all looked to advance! This was a good match again, all four guys are talented, you had of the four men who had that great Fatal 4-Way at WrestleMania for the Intercontinental Championship in this match, and Sami Zayn is obviously amazing! Bron controlled this for the most part, he looked like the most likely to win, but following a devastating Spear to Penta, LA Knight came out of nowhere and dropped Breakker with a BFT as a measure of revenge for this weekend! This opened the door for Sami to nail Dominik with a Helluva Kick to get the win, and you have to expect Zayn to win in the Semis too!

AJ Styles said he was going to tell Chad Gable what he thinks of him to his face before The New Day were once again hanging out with Grayson Waller! We then got a video package hyping up next week’s return of Asuka (which is awesome) before Nikki Bella came down to the ring to cut her first WWE in-ring promo in what must have been years! Nikki said it felt great to be back, that she’s missed the fans, and she wanted to talk about how excited she is for Evolution 2! Bella said that there are so many amazing and talented women in WWE, both new and old, but one name she didn’t mention was Liv Morgan! This brought out Liv who was absolutely furious at this before she took multiple shots at Nikki Bella’s personal life, leading to Bella trying to get revenge, only for Morgan to stand following an ObLIVion! I guess we’re doing Liv-Nikki at Evolution 2, that’s an interesting one!

World Heavyweight Championship: Jey Uso VS Gunther

And in the Main Event of the Raw after Money in the Bank, Gunther looked to recapture the World Heavyweight Championship off “Main Event” Jey Uso! This was a really good match that was all about the storytelling, Jey was beaten up and bruised, he’s been taken out multiple by Seth Rollins’ group, he’s had to deal with facing both John Cena and Logan Paul, and he really didn’t have much left. On the other end of the spectrum, Gunther has only fought Pat McAfee, things have been easy going for The Ring General, so that gave him a massive advantage here! Whilst Uso did his best to fight through the pain, eventually it was too much as Gunther was able to choke Jey out in a sleeper hold to get the win and take back his World Heavyweight Championship! Whilst Jey Uso didn’t have the Title for long, I thought he did a decent job with it, and Gunther being Champion just fits his character perfectly!
