2026/27 Premier League Roundup: Gameweek 2

Manchester United 5-2 Ipswich

A Bruno Fernandes hat-trick helped Manchester United to their first win of the season over newly promoted Ipswich Town! Senne Lammens pulled off a decent save early on to stop Julio Enciso from making it 1-0, but the deadlock wouldn’t last forever as Leif Davis finished brilliantly to give Ipswich the lead! However, in the 40th minute, a slip by Marcelino Nunez opened the door for Bruno Fernandes to equalise, before Bryan Mbeumo somehow managed to hit the crossbar from about 2 yards out! In the 56th minute, Manchester United found themselves in front courtesy of a Jacob Greaves own goal, but the fact that this goal was even given in the first place is ridiculous! Apparently, because it was an own goal, the fact that Harry Maguire handled the ball is irrelevant! What?! Anyway, things would then get worse for Greaves as a foul on Matheus Cunha would allow Fernandes to calmly convert from 12 yards out, before Bruno completed his hat-trick in the 68th minute after multiple deflections helped the ball into his path! Bryan Mbeumo would then add a 5th after questionable goalkeeping by Kjell Scherpen, before Chuba Akpom would make it 5-2 in stoppage time (after a stupid error by Lisandro Martinez)! Overall, Manchester United once again have one man to thank! United rise to 10th in the league, and they’ll head to Everton next time out! As for Ipswich Town, their defence made too many errors in this one! The Tractor Boys drop to 12th in the table, and their next game is at home against Liverpool on Friday Night Football!

Chelsea 4-3 Brighton

Brighton and Hove Albion’s comeback wasn’t meant to be, as Chelsea made it 2 wins from 2 under Xabi Alonso (in the league)! After just 4 minutes, Chelsea had the lead through Romeo Lavia following a complete mess-up at the back between Bart Verbruggen and Mats Wieffer! In the 14th minute, it was 2-0 as Pedro Neto found the back of the net following a good bit of play by Morgan Rogers, before Joao Pedro missed a great chance to add a third! However, Pedro would get his goal in the 32nd minute, before Brighton would get one back three minutes later as Malick Junior Yalcouye fired the ball home on the rebound! In the second half, Diego Gomez missed a golden opportunity to get another one back for Brighton, before a Joao Pedro own goal would make it 3-2! How kind of Pedro to help out his former club! Anyway, in the 74th minute, a brilliant goal by Cole Palmer would give Chelsea some breathing space, before Pascal Gross made it 4-3 in the 96th minute! Overall, Chelsea’s attack looks very strong right now! The Blues rise to 4th in the league, and their next game is a massive one away at Arsenal! As for Brighton and Hove Albion, they ultimately gave themselves too much work to do! The Seagulls drop to 9th in the table, and they’ll host Leeds next time out!

Crystal Palace 1-4 Manchester City

Manchester City continued their perfect league start under Enzo Maresca with a thumping Friday Night Football victory over Crystal Palace! A good piece of defending on the line stopped Erling Haaland from giving Manchester City the lead, before Haaland would net his first goal of the season in the 17th minute after a brilliant ball in by Antoine Semenyo! Phil Foden then missed a pair of golden chances to extend Man City’s lead, whilst Tyrick Mitchell missed a great opportunity of his own down at the other end! 9 minutes into the second half, Man City would have their second as Rayan Cherki finished brilliantly! Just 2 minutes later, though, Crystal Palace would have one back as Yeremy Pino’s excellently struck free-kick went in off Gianluigi Donnarumma, only for Cherki to score again just 3 minutes later! Cherki’s strike did take a deflection off Chris Richards! And then, in the 84th minute, City would have a 4th as Haaland netted his second! In the end, it’s not been a particularly good start to the season for Pierre Sage’s Crystal Palace! The Eagles drop into the Relegation Zone (in 18th), and their next game feels like a must-win away at Fulham! As for Manchester City, this was a strong result! City rise to top of the league, and they’ll host Coventry next time out!

Liverpool 2-2 Nottingham Forest

After 24 minutes, Nottingham Forest found themselves in front as Dan Ndoye finished well following some questionable Liverpool defending! Florian Wirtz then thought he’d equalised, but his goal was rightly ruled out for offside, before Wirtz was denied again, this time by a great Matz Sels save! Alisson then made a huge save just before halftime to tip Igor Jesus’ effort onto the crossbar, before Liverpool would get their equaliser in the 60th minute through Alexander Isak! Big goal! However, after Alisson wiped out Neco Williams, Morgan Gibbs-White would convert from 12 yards out to restore Forest’s lead with 20 minutes left to play! And then, in the 82nd minute, Victor Munoz would fire Liverpool back onto level terms with the help of a small deflection! In the end, Andoni Iraola will still have to wait for his victory in charge of Liverpool! The Reds drop to 13th place, and their next game is away at Ipswich this Friday! As for Nottingham Forest, they actually took their chances this week! Forest stay 15th in the table, and they’ll host Tottenham in what already feels like a big game next time out!

Tottenham 0-2 Newcastle

Matthias Jaissle picked up his first-ever Premier League victory as Newcastle United humbled Tottenham Hotspur! Pedro Porro had a good opportunity to give Tottenham the lead in the first half, but his effort was brilliantly blocked by Lewis Hall, before Omar Marmoush made a mess of a good chance to score on his debut! Jan Paul van Hecke would then see his close-range header saved by Lukas Hornicek, before Tottenham could’ve been awarded a penalty early in the second half! This is a tight one! Anyway, in the 62nd minute, Anthony Elanga would punish Spurs by giving Newcastle the lead in the 62nd minute, before Yoane Wissa made it 2-0 ten minutes later! In the end, it’s been a horrific start to the season for Tottenham Hotspur! Spurs now find themselves bottom of the league, and their next game is a must-win away at Nottingham Forest! As for Newcastle United, they’ve started life under Matthais Jaissle well! The Magpies rise to 6th in the table, and they’ll host Bournemouth next time out!

Leeds 1-1 Brentford

After 41 minutes, Brentford were the ones who found themselves in front courtesy of a wonderful Kevin Schade finish! In the second half, Brentford really should’ve had a penalty after Schade was brought down by Jayden Bogle, but the referee determined that there wasn’t enough contact. Okay! Anyway, Daniel James then made a mess of a good opportunity to get Leeds back into the game, before Leeds would get their equaliser in the 79th minute through Dominic Calvert-Lewin! James Trafford would then make a decent save to deny Igor Thiago (with Thiago then missing again on the rebound), before Caoimhin Kelleher made a big save to deny Calvert-Lewin a winning goal! In the end, I don’t think Leeds United will be too disappointed with this result! The Whites rise to 8th in the table, and their next game is a good one away at Brighton! As for Brentford, they had enough moments to win this game! The Bees drop to 5th in the league, and they’ll host Sunderland next time out!

Bournemouth 1-1 Everton

Another late goal haunted Marco Rose’s AFC Bournemouth as Everton continued their unbeaten start to the season! Djordje Petrovic made a great save early on to keep Jarrad Branthwaite’s headed effort out, before Petrovic made another key save, this time to deny Thierno Barry! Then, in the 41st minute, Bournemouth found themselves in front thanks to a great finish by Alex Scott! Barry then missed another good opportunity on the stroke of halftime (hitting the side netting), before Petrovic once again denied Barry! Jordan Pickford then pulled off a great save to keep Rayan’s shot out, whilst Evanlison’s rebounded effort was brilliantly blocked by Hayden Hackney! And then, in the 91st minute, Everton would finally have their goal as James Tarkowski equalised superbly! In the end, another game, another late goal/set-piece goal conceded by AFC Bournemouth! The Cherries drop to 14th in the table, and they’ll head to Newcastle next time out! As for Everton, they definitely did enough not to lose this game! The Toffees drop to 7th in the league, and their next game sees them host Manchester United on Super Sunday!

Aston Villa 0-1 Arsenal

Arsenal made it 2 wins from 2 with a slim victory over struggling Aston Villa! Emi Buendia smashed the bar early on for Aston Villa, whilst Arsenal’s request for a penalty was quickly thrown out! In the second half, Arsenal were awarded a penalty after Ian Maatsen knocked over Bukayo Saka, but VAR rightly overturned the decision as the foul clearly happened outside the box! However, in the 59th minute, Arsenal would find themselves in front as Saka was able to bundle the ball over the line! Arsenal then probably should’ve been awarded a penalty in stoppage time, but nothing was given (good old referees)! In the end, Aston Villa’s squad right now looks as dismal as their North Stand! Villa remain inside the Relegation Zone (now in 19th), and they’ll head to Hull in a must-win game next time out! As for Arsenal, it’s another victory and a clean sheet for them! The Gunners remain second in the league, and their next game is a big one at home against London Rivals Chelsea!

Coventry 0-1 Hull

A late winner continued Hull City’s perfect start to life back in the Premier League at the expense of a very disappointed Coventry City! Taiwo Awoniyi had a decent opportunity early on, but he could only head the ball straight into the arms of Konstantinos Tzolakis, before Awoniyi failed to score again, this time thanks to a great bit of goalkeeping by Tzolakis! In the second half, Liam Millar whistled an effort just wide of the target, before in the 82nd minute, Millar would find the back of the net to snatch all 3 points for Hull! In the end, this is a really poor result as far as Coventry City are concerned! The Sky Blues now find themselves 17th in the table, and their next game is probably going to be a tough one away at Manchester City! As for Hull City, what a start to the season for them! The Tigers rise to third in the league, and they’ll host Aston Villa next time out!

Sunderland 1-0 Fulham

Fulham had a great opportunity to take the lead in the first half, but Josh King was unable to keep his effort down, before Nordi Mukiele pulled off a good piece of defending to block Gonzalo Garcia’s effort! Wilson Isidor then missed a golden opportunity to give Sunderland the lead, striking the post from close range, before Isidor would eventually get his goal to make it 1-0 to Sunderland after 75 minutes! Overall, this is an important win for Sunderland AFC! The Black Cats rise to 11th place, and they’ll head to Brentford next time out! As for Fulham, it’s not been a good start to the season for them! The Cottagers drop to 16th in the table, and their next game is a big one at home against Crystal Palace!
