2026/27 Premier League Roundup: Gameweek 4
Coventry 0-5 Brighton
Coventry City’s horrendous start to life back in the Premier League continued as they got decimated 5-0 by Brighton and Hove Albion! Bart Verbruggen made a couple of great saves to stop Jack Rudoni and Frank Onyeka from giving Coventry a first-half lead, before it was Brighton who ended up scoring first in the 35th minute through Charalampos Kostoulas! In the 51st minute, Malick Junior Yalcouye did brilliantly to make it 2-0, before things got worse for Coventry as Taiwo Awoniyi was shown a straight red card just 2 minutes later! Brighton were then awarded a penalty after Bobby Thomas brought down Kostoulas, which Pascal Gross converted expertly! In the 83rd minute, Lewis Dunk scored an absolute stunner to make it 4-0, before Yasin Ayari added a 5th in stoppage time! In the end, Coventry City are absolutely abysmal! The Sky Blues stay bottom of the league, and they’ll host Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup tomorrow ahead of an away trip to Nottingham Forest! As for Brighton and Hove Albion, this was the best version of them! The Seagulls rise to 5th in the table, and they have a big week incoming with games against Manchester United (in the Carabao Cup) and Arsenal (in the League)!
Leeds 4-1 Newcastle
Leeds United rise into the Top 3 with a thumping Monday Night Football victory over Newcastle United! Despite making a great save early on, Lukas Hornicek wasn’t able to keep Leeds out forever as the hosts went in front in the 32nd minute following a Lewis Miley own goal! Just 2 minutes later, Leeds had a second through Jayden Bogle, before Dominic Calvert-Lewin made it 3-0 heading into halftime! Now this one definitely was DCL’s goal! In the 59th minute, Noah Okafor scored to make it 4-0, whilst Newcastle were at least able to get one goal in the 90th minute courtesy of Bazoumana Toure! Overall, what a wonderful start to the season it’s been for Leeds United! The Whites rise to third in the league, and they’ll host Crystal Palace next time out! As for Newcastle United, this was a bad loss! The Magpies drop to 12th in the table, and their next game feels important at home against Hull!
Crystal Palace 2-3 Ipswich
Ipswich Town left it late to earn a massive 3 points off a stunned Crystal Palace! After just 14 minutes, Crystal Palace found themselves in front as Anan Khalaili scored following a helpful deflection off Leif Davis! However, in the 23rd minute, Ipswich would find themselves back on level terms courtesy of Emersonn, before Axel Disasi was shown a straight red card after a high challenge on Jack Clarke! Then, right before halftime, Ipswich found themselves in front as Leif Davis got the important touch at the other end! In the second half, Walter Benitez got down low to keep Jack Clarke’s effort out, before Palace were back on level terms in the 75th minute thanks to a good finish by Jorgen Strand Larsen! Khalaili then missed a golden opportunity to put Crystal Palace in front late on, before in the 90th minute, Zian Flemming snatched all 3 points for the visitors! In the end, this is a terrible result as far as Crystal Palace are concerned! The Eagles drop to 16th in the table, and they’ll kick off their Europa League campaign against Lech Poznan this Thursday ahead of an away trip to Leeds! As for Ipswich Town, this is a massive win for them! The Tractor Boys rise to 10th in the league, and they’ll face Arsenal (in the Carabao Cup) and Everton (in the Premier League) over the next week!
Chelsea 2-2 Hull
Hull City’s impressive unbeaten start to the league season continued with a strong away point at Chelsea! After just 7 minutes, Chelsea already found themselves in front as Morgan Rogers managed to find the bottom corner! In the 28th minute, Hull were back on level terms through Mohamed Belloumi, and honestly, what on earth was Jorrel Hato doing?! Emi Martinez then pulled off an important save to deny Lewie Coyle, before Belloumi scored again to put Hull in front! Now, this effort took multiple deflections! In the second half, Reece James struck the post from a free kick, before Oli McBurnie failed to beat Martinez from close range! In the 66th minute, Joao Pedro smashed the ball home to make it 2-2, before Mohamed-Ali Cho missed a golden opportunity to win it for Hull late on! In the end, this is a disappointing result for Chelsea! The Blues drop to 6th in the table, and their next game sees them head to Brentford for Friday Night Football! As for Hull City, their remarkable run continues! The Tigers now find themselves 4th in the league, and they’ll head to Newcastle next time out!
Bournemouth 2-2 Brentford
Keane Lewis-Potter wasn’t a million miles away from giving Brentford the lead early on; his effort whistled just wide of the post, before Antonio Silva missed a golden opportunity down at the other end! In the 34th minute, Brentford found themselves in front through Kevin Schade! Rayan then missed a great opportunity to equalise on the rebound, only for Justin Kluivert to equalise just 4 minutes after Bournemouth went behind! In the 52nd minute, Bournemouth’s comeback was complete courtesy of Marcus Tavernier, only for Schade to score again to equalise just 4 minutes later! What a shambolic mistake by Djordje Petrovic! Rayan then once again failed to hit the target, before Ben Gannon-Doak’s effort deflected back out off the post! In the end, it’s another game without a win for Marco Rose’s AFC Bournemouth! The Cherries stay 15th in the table, and they’re set to play their first-ever European game this week at Real Sociedad, before they welcome Andoni Iraola’s Liverpool to the Vitality! As for Brentford, it’s another draw for them! The Bees drop to 7th in the league, and they’ll head to Reading tonight ahead of an important London Derby against Chelsea this Friday!
Aston Villa 1-2 Nottingham Forest
Oliver Glasner finally earned his first win as Nottingham Forest Manager as Aston Villa’s torrid start to the season continues! Matz Sels made a couple of excellent saves to keep the ball from crossing the line in the first half, before Nottingham Forest found themselves in front less than 60 seconds into the second half thanks to a great strike by Liam Delap! Delap then had another chance to score; this time striking the side netting, before Aston Villa were back on level terms in the 74th minute through Alysson! This was a great header! Zion Suzuki then pulled off a strong save to deny Xaver Schlager, before in the 88th minute, Igor Jesus found the back of the net to earn Nottingham Forest a crucial first victory of the season! In the end, this is a bad loss for Aston Villa! Villa drop back into the Relegation Zone (in 19th), and next week is a massive one with away trips to Coventry (Carabao Cup) and Tottenham (Premier League)! As for Nottingham Forest, they needed this! Forest rise to 11th in the table, and they’ll host Coventry next time out!
Sunderland 0-2 Arsenal
Arsenal kept up their perfect start to the season with a hard-fought away win over Sunderland AFC! Robin Roefs made a decent save in the first half to keep Kai Havertz’s effort out, before Sunderland were awarded a penalty early in the second half after Ezri Konsa brought down Dan Ballard! However, Enzo Le Fee would see his penalty tipped onto the post by David Raya, before Bruno Guimaraes fired Arsenal in front just moments later with a wonderful strike against his former rivals! Roefs would then make another decent save, this time to deny Bukayo Saka, before Raya made another great save! And then, after Reinildo was shown a second yellow card after giving away a penalty, Bukayo Saka stepped up and scored from 12 yards out to seal all 3 points for the Champions! In the end, missing that penalty cost Sunderland AFC dearly! The Black Cats drop to 14th in the table, and they’ll start their European campaign tomorrow against AZ Alkmaar before they head to Manchester City on Sunday! As for Arsenal, this is a good win for them! The Gunners now find themselves top of the league, and they’ll face Ipswich in the Carabao Cup tonight ahead of another test at Brighton this Saturday!
Manchester United 0-1 Manchester City
Despite being down to 10 men for the large majority of the game, it was Manchester City who earned Derby Day bragging-rights with a massive victory over a worthless Manchester United! After 23 minutes, Manchester City were down to 10 men as Phil Foden was shown a straight red card after kicking out at Bruno Fernandes! For me, I agree with the decision to send Foden off, but there’s a very strong argument to be made that Fernandes should also have seen red! Marcus Rashford would then strike the post following a strong free-kick effort, before Kobbie Mainoo hit the post in the second half! Then, in the 60th minute, Manchester City found themselves in front as Erling Haaland’s goal was given following a lengthy VAR check! I don’t really know what happened here, but the finish from Haaland was great! Senne Lammens was then forced into tipping Enzo Fernandez’s effort onto the post, before Bryan Mbeumo was brilliantly denied in the 95th minute by Gianluigi Donnarumma! In the end, this is about as bad as it gets if you’re a Manchester United fan! United drop to 13th in the table, and they have a massive week incoming with games against Brighton (at home in the cup) and Fulham (away in the league)! As for Manchester City, this is their first statement victory under Enzo Maresca! City do drop to second in the league (on goal difference), however, and they’ll host Norwich and Sunderland before the International Break!
Liverpool 0-0 Fulham
Alexander Isak wasn’t a million miles away from giving Liverpool the lead early on, before Jeremy Jacquet was needed to clear Gonzalo Garcia’s effort off the line! Victor Munoz would then force a strong save out of Bernd Leno from close range, before Leno made a couple more saves in the second half! Kevin then had a decent chance which he failed to hit the target with, before Isak missed a good opportunity to win it for Liverpool late on! In the end, it’s another poor home result for Liverpool! The Reds drop to 8th in the table, and they’ll face Tottenham in the Carabao Cup tonight before a special away trip to Bournemouth! As for Fulham, Alvaro Arbeloa finally has a point! The Cottagers remain inside the Relegation Zone (now in 18th), and they’ll take on both West Ham and Manchester United this upcoming week!
Tottenham 0-0 Everton
For the 4th-straight game, Tottenham Hotspur failed to find the back of the net as Everton kept up their unbeaten start to the season! Jan Paul van Hecke failed to keep his effort down in the first half, whilst Antonin Kinsky was needed to make a decent save to keep Thierno Barry’s headed effort out! Kinsky would then redeem himself from a terrible mistake by denying Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, before Brennan Johnson wasted a great opportunity to put Everton in front! Lucas Bergvall would then attempt to win it for Tottenham late on, but his effort was kept out by Jordan Pickford! In the end, Tottenham Hotspur are still goalless in the 2026/27 Premier League Season! Spurs do rise to 17th in the table, at least, and they’re set to take on Liverpool in the Carabao Cup tonight ahead of a massive league clash with fellow strugglers Aston Villa! As for Everton, their unbeaten start to the season remains intact for at least another week! The Toffees drop to 9th in the table, and their next week sees them have home fixtures against both Wolves and Ipswich!
