Reacting to My 2024/25 Premier League Season Predictions

With the 2024/25 Premier League Season officially over, it’s time to take a look back at the Predictions I made before the season began! I absolutely love these articles, I can’t wait to see if I did worse than last year (which is actually impossible because I didn’t get a single team right last season)! Anyway, without further ado, let’s get into it!

20th: Southampton

I’m already doing better than the 2023/24 Season and it’s only been one team! I had no faith in Southampton being any good, they were rubbish 2 years ago with James Ward-Prowse, so there was no reason to believe they’d do any better this time around! In fact, The Saints actually did worse, they earnt just 12 points from 38 games, and that is absolutely shambolic! But hey, I’ll take the point!

19th: Leicester

Whilst I’m not fully correct, I was right to say that Leicester City would go straight back down! I had multiple concerns about Leicester, mainly the fact that their squad looked worse heading into this season than the team that got Relegated 2 years ago, and that’s never good! Also, they’d just brought in Steve Cooper who is a Manager I don’t rate very highly, so yeah, pretty pleased with this Prediction, even The Foxes’ better end to the season meant they finished 18th with 25 points!

18th: Nottingham Forest

Yeah, this was a shocker! My main concern about Nottingham Forest was their squad felt weak, but that was clearly proven wrong as Forest finished all the way up in 7th! Yes, that’s right, I predicted Nottingham Forest to play in the Championship next season, and instead, they’re playing in the Conference League! My only saving grace here is really, Forest should be playing Champions League Football so this could’ve been even worse!

17th: Ipswich

Yeah, I think I might’ve been hoping more than anything with this Prediction! I was aware that Ipswich Town’s squad wasn’t the strongest, but I did rate them higher than the other 2 Promoted sides, and I wanted to believe that their home crowd plus Kieran McKenna would drag them to survival! Unfortunately, Ipswich only managed 1 home win all season, and The Tractor Boys finished 19th with 22 points, 16 off survival! Maybe I’ll learn next year when it comes to the newly Promoted teams (probably not)!

16th: Fulham

Yeah, I was wrong again! I never once believed Fulham would be in a Relegation scrap, I felt the gap between them to the teams below them was too big, and that was very true! In fact, Fulham finished 11th with a pretty strong 54 points, having contended for European Football for most of the season! The unfortunate thing with this Prediction was I talked about Fulham’s lack of consistency meaning they’d finish low down in the table, but it’s actually their lack of consistency that cost them a Top 8 spot (in my opinion)! Still, a decent season for The Cottagers!

15th: Wolves

Wow, I was just 1 off with Wolverhampton Wanderers! I will say, though, Wolves’ season went a lot differently to how I expected as they were in serious trouble at the start of the year, leading to Gary O’Neil being sacked, but Vitor Pereira came in and did a terrific job to guide them up to 16th with 42 points! However, having said that, Wolves did end their season with just 1 point from 4 games so they were very up-and-down!

14th: Brentford

Brentford were another team that performed much better than I expected as they came home 10th with 56 points! The interesting thing is when I made these Predictions, I mentioned Ivan Toney being back properly (in a good way), and the fact he then left actually makes this Prediction even worse! However, at least I did say that The Bees could finish higher!

13th: Everton

Let’s go, I managed to get Everton spot on! I thought Everton would have their best season in a while with the motivation of their final season at Goodison Park, and the added fact that they weren’t dealing with a points deduction certainly helped that! Now, Everton did struggle for most of the first half of the season, but bringing in David Moyes proved to be a strong choice as The Toffees recorded their highest finish since 2021!

12th: Brighton

Bloody Brighton! I felt like Brighton and Hove Albion would get more points than the season prior, and that did happen! However, I wasn’t fully certain as to whether the players would adapt quickly to Fabian Hurzeler’s new style of play, but they actually did as they finished 8th with 61 points! However, what I will say about The Seagulls is I genuinely think they were good enough this season to qualify for the Champions League, I think they messed it up honestly, but I guess that’s a good thing because it makes my Prediction look less bad!

11th: Bournemouth

Whilst I’m not fully correct here, I’m pretty happy with my Prediction about AFC Bournemouth! See, Bournemouth did finish 9th, but I said they would have their best season since 2016/17, and that was proven to be correct! I also said that I expected The Cherries to already beat their Premier League points-record, and they did that too with 56 points! Ultimately, I’m pretty satisfied with this pick!

10th: Crystal Palace

This is a very interesting Prediction because I said Oliver Glasner would guide Crystal Palace over 50 points for the first time in the Premier League era, and that’s exactly what happened as Palace picked up 53 points! However, despite that, The Eagles finished 2 places lower than I expected in 12th, but they also won the FA Cup so it was a pretty good season overall!

9th: Manchester United

I took a risk putting Manchester United as low as 9th, my reasoning being that I didn’t believe the squad was any good! Ultimately, I was far too kind as Man United were absolutely horrendous as they earnt just 42 points to end up 15th in the table! Not only does that mean that this Prediction is pretty bad, but it also points out even more just how horrendous United have been!

8th: Tottenham

Speaking of horrendous, I believed that Tottenham Hotspur wouldn’t have nearly as strong of a second season under Ange Postecoglou as they did in their first! However, just like United, things went far worse than anyone could’ve ever expected as Tottenham finished 17th, average just 1 point per game! Like, that is horrific! However, Spurs did manage to lift the Europa League trophy to earn their way into next season’s Champions League, so maybe they don’t mind!

7th: West Ham

Oh, we are on a run here! I had huge amounts of faith surrounding West Ham United heading into this season, I really believed bringing in Julen Lopetegui would bring in great results! Unfortunately for me, I was completely wrong as Lopetegui got sacked after a poor run of results, and The Hammers ended up finishing 14th! What makes this Prediction even worse is I said that The Hammers could finish even higher than 7th, but at least I can laugh at the fact that I was right to say that West Ham would finish ahead of Spurs and Man United!

6th: Chelsea

For a lot of the season, Chelsea did find themselves around the 6th place-mark, but a couple of wins to end the season meant they ended up finishing 4th! I’m not too disappointed with this Prediction given it was all quite close, but I will say that I was correct in saying Chelsea would end the year as Conference League Champions so that is a plus!

5th: Newcastle

Absolutely nailed this one! Despite having a difficult season the year prior, with no European Football to contend with, I had hope that Newcastle United could turn things around and start qualifying for European competitions again! Now, that’s exactly what happened as Newcastle had a great year as they finished 5th, a position that ultimately proved to be enough for Champions League Football! Good job from The Magpies, and they’re going to be one to watch come my Predictions in August!

4th: Aston Villa

So close, yet so far! Aston Villa did a really good job at managing playing both competitive Premier League and Champions League Football, they were strong in both competitions, and Unai Emery was the key to that! However, a loss on the final day meant that Villa finished 6th, missing out on another year in the Champions League on goal difference! Still, I think Villa did a great job, and I’m not disappointed with this Prediction either!

3rd: Liverpool

This one frustrates me! I liked the appointment of Arne Slot, he did well at Feyenoord, and I genuinely thought Liverpool would be strong enough to get somewhere around 83/84 points. However, I didn’t think they’d quite be good enough to mount a Title challenge, but wouldn’t you know it, Liverpool did earn 84 points, and that was enough for them to win the league! In fact, The Reds finished 10 points clear of anyone else so they absolutely walked it in the end, and fair play to them for that!

2nd: Manchester City

I was finally correct about Manchester City not winning the Premier League! I believed that at some point, Manchester City were going to have to “lose one” and just get beaten by an even better side! However, it didn’t exactly go like that as Man City were pretty horrendous for the most part, struggling to earn wins as they looked in trouble of making Europe at all! However, a better end to the season meant City were able to secure third with 71 points, but it was still a poor year for them!

1st: Arsenal

Another year, another set of Predictions were I incorrectly say that Arsenal are going to end the year as Premier League Champions! I believed that after 2 years of missing out, this would finally be Arsenal’s year as they would continue to get better (and the added fact that Man City had to drop off a little at some point)! However, Arsenal were too poor themselves to take advantage of a City off year as they could only muster up 74 points to take their third-straight second-place finish! What a massive missed opportunity for The Gunners, they can’t keep doing this!
