The Winners and Losers of the 2025 Shanghai E-Prix Weekend

It was time for the third double-header weekend of May as teams took on the challenge of the Shanghai International Circuit!

Winner: Maximilian Gunther

As always with a double-header, you have to start with one of the Race Winners, and I’ve opted for Maximilian Gunther! As always, just because one Race went well doesn’t mean the other one did, and a car failure earlier today saw Max retire from Round 11! However, in Round 10, Max Gunther was the class of the field, taking Pole Position before he looked unstoppable in the Race to take his second E-Prix victory of the season! Those 28 points have shot Gunther up to 6th in the Drivers’ Standings, and it will be interesting to see if he can take another win before the season’s close!
Loser: Oliver Rowland
For almost every weekend this season, Oliver Rowland has found himself on the Podium at least once on a weekend, if not twice (as seen in every double header so far)! However, this weekend didn’t quite go to plan as Oliver didn’t quite have enough pace to hold on on Saturday, eventually coming home P5, but that was still a decent amount of points! However, today went a lot worse as Rowland got caught out in the torrential rain of Qualifying before he came home 13th in the E-Prix! Now, due to his amazing start to the season, Ollie Rowland still leaves China with a 68-point lead intact, but he can’t afford to keep having these weekends moving forward!
Winners: DS Penske

We’ve already talked about Maximilian Gunther’s win, but DS Penske as a whole deserve a mention! See, not only did Max Gunther win yesterday, but teammate Jean-Eric Vergne made a double overtake right at the end to come home second, meaning DS scored Formula E’s first 1-2 in over a year! Also, whilst Gunther retired today, JEV was still able to come home P5, meaning both drivers came away from the weekend with 28 points each! DS Penske have now left the weekend third in the Teams’ Championship, and that’s a great effort from them!
Loser: Jake Dennis

Shanghai might well end up being one of Jake Dennis’ worst weekends in his entire Formula E Career! Despite returning to the duels on Saturday, Jake lacked any sort of pace and eventually dropped all the way to P17, and things didn’t go better today as the Brit recorded another 17th-place finish! I’ve never seen Dennis struggle so much with his car, he went off multiple times in the wet today, and he’s dropped 4 places in the Standings this weekend, pain!
Winners and Losers: TAG Heuer Porsche
What a tale of two halves this weekend proved to be for TAG Heuer Porsche! Yesterday was an absolute mess for Porsche as neither Pascal Wehrlein nor Antonio Felix da Costa managed to score any points, a rarity for a team as strong as them! However, today went much better as both Pascal and Antonio kept their calm in tricky conditions to bring home a double Podium! Not only was that a great result for Porsche, but it’s actually meant they’ve risen to first in the Teams’ Championship, and that’s pretty damn impressive! Still, with 5 Rounds to go, there’s an awful long way still to go!
Loser: Mitch Evans
Another weekend, another article, another time where I talk about Mitch Evans in a negative way! I don’t even know what to say other than Mitch is having an absolute shocker, he finished P20 yesterday and P14 today, like, what is going on?! Evans is now 18th in the Championship, and something needs to change because this is absolutely unacceptable!
Winner: Nick Cassidy

From one Jaguar TCS Racing driver to another, Nick Cassidy finally had his moment in the sun in Season 11! Yesterday started really well for Nick, he was looking quick all day before he got spun around by Jean-Eric Vergne, resulting in him finishing last of the running drivers! However, in what was pretty torrential weather, Cassidy excelled to take a great Pole Position before he led from lights to flag to finally take his first victory of the season! It’s been a horrible year for Nick Cassidy, without a doubt, but his 28 points today has seen him shoot up to 7th in the Championship, and he can work from that!
